Dear Members of the MENA-SINO

At our annual meeting in Cairo, I had the honour and pleasure of renewing my confidence to keep the position of President of the MENA-SINO for another two years. To begin with, I would like to thank the board of directors for their hard work and significant contribution to our society. They led the MENA-SINO through the turbulent and, on occasion, painful times of the pandemic, ensuring that the MENA-SINO  continued providing a steady stream of high level regional teamwork, research, and educational activities, albeit in virtual form.

The pandemic had and still has deep and lasting effects on many of us and on our environment. Our society is nevertheless well placed to address the resulting challenges and realise its ambitions to the benefit of our members.

Success, however, can only be ensured through a collaborative, team-based approach as well as broadening the engagement of the MENA-SINO members in all our increasing scientific, educational, and organisational activities. I would like to highlight here our newly elected board of directors and officers forward looking project to transform the involvement of our junior and more multinational members in the various aspects of the MENA-SINO. They will communicate their plans to you in the next few months.

The Chairs of our Committees, Dr. Amal Al Hashmi , Dr. Seby  John, Dr. Hosam Al-Jehani, Dr. Syed H. Irteza , and Prof. Atilla Ozcan Ozdimar  are in the process of breaking new ground; they will not only develop new educational activities but will also engage in various key aspects of our profession, providing recommendations on region adaptive guidelines, protocol specific conditions, standardisation aspects, training and elevation of skills, and governance in general.

It is important to remember that the MENA-SINO has 17 member societies; there has been, however, only limited engagement between the MENA-SINO and these national societies. Together with the Chair of the Institutional Council, Dr. Seby John, as well as Prof. Mustafa Mahmoud and Prof. Maher Saqqur , we have started in depth discussions to develop a programme that will benefit the members of all societies and increase their participation in our activities.

We want to engage as many members as possible in these key developments as well as in other important initiatives, so the idea of creating a very special committee , strategy-planning and advisory, to build tributaries for continuous organisation shaping and amelioration

With the Executive Committee of the MENA-SINO, I wish you all a very happy, and healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year 2023.
